Open it, and run the CreateCustomGotRv1.9.2 bat file, then follow the instructions to make the patch. Once it's finished creating it, go to the MYCUSTOMPATCH folder and copy the files that have appeared in there. Paste those files into your Saints Row 2 directory (the same place where the game executable is. The mod will now be installed. Saints Row 2 has my favorite soundtrack of any videogame, hands down (or. Only GotR added a few tribal Brotherhood designs from NPCs, but that's about it.

How to not port a game.

Saints Row 2 is an open world action-adventure game developed by Volition and originally published by THQ for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in October 2008.

In October 2008, THQ and Volition released Saints Row 2 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 to positive reviews and commercial success, with it being widely regarded as the best game in the entire Saints Row series. Three months later, a PC port developed by The CD Projekt RED localisation team (informally known as 'CD Project Black' to different them from the main development team) was released to the public, with terrible results.

Why The PC Version Sucks

  1. The keys used to navigate menus don't make any sense. You must hit the [ and ] keys in order to change pages, which simulate the bumpers on an Xbox 360 controller.
  2. Some of the menus simply don't work at all.
  3. Very bizarrely, running the game on a computer with a more powerful CPU than the one in the Xbox 360 (running at 3.2 Ghz) will make it run worse than expected - and the more powerful it is than the Xbox 360, the worse the game will run. You heard that right: The better your computer hardware is, the worse the game's performance will be.
  4. Movement and voice clips speed up at random.
  5. Keys don't always respond with the actions they are mapped to, making some sections impossible to complete.
  6. The game constantly crashes.
  7. This game had low quality soundbanks (22,5 khz) compared to the Xbox 360 version, where it ran at 32 - 48 khz stereo.
  8. The game will sometimes flicker and screen-tear when you connect your PC to a TV through an HDMI cable.
  9. The GOG version of the game is locked to the wrong frame rate, and with the Gentlemen of the Row mod, it gets worse.
  10. Datamining by modders revealed portions of the console-only DLC existed in-game, which provides the post-story bridge to Saints Row The Third, but there is not enough present to reconstruct it for PC and modders have been forbidden by the publishers to attempt to port the console assets, as the provisions of the port explicitly forbid doing so.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Just like manyothergames, the original console versions are great.
  2. Fortunately, there's modifications such as Gentlemen of the Row, High Quality Radio (ported from the Xbox 360 version) and Saints Row 2 Powertools, which fixes most of the problems that the port suffers from. They may not be perfect, but at least they make this disaster of a port more playable and enjoyable.
    • There's also a ton of graphical improvement mods (like FusionH2o's Saints Row 1 Texture Pack, which replaces many of the game's textures with those from Saints Row, giving Stilwater a more vibrant and livelier feel).
  3. On October 2019, Volition announced that they found the source code for this port and will be releasing a patch for it in the near future. Changes include replacing GameSpy with Steam (allowing for Workshop mods), various bug fixes, and also including the DLC content for free.

so this game is part of the THQ pack on steam and has been on and off sale for a month or so. I picked it up for just a few bucks and was hoping to get in some WS gaming.
detailed report file + res fixer doesnt seem to work with my setup.
actually i dont notice much differance with or without the file downloaded and installed really.
i have 3x1 4:3 monitors for a total aspect of 15:4 @ 3840x1024
i get in the game but its zoomed so horribly, it feels like my FOV is something rediculous like 30.
i cant see the players feet, if i get in a car i cant see the bottom half and Definitely can't see the wheels.
anyone have any idears?
*edit, found out that the problem is that i loaded the Gentlemen of the Row mod. it doesnt overwrite that common.vpp.pc file but its like the game no longer reads it or something. cause the FOV is back to default, which is unplayable. if i remove the mod and go back to stock the patch works great and the fov is way zoomed out as it should be.
i joined the dev of the SR2 GOTR mods forum (which is awesome and had lots of SR2 and SR3 mods BTW) and asked him about his too. ill post if i get anything back.

anyone having issues with this game (and who has been for years or has scrapped it because of it) should know that 1. the current steam version still has issues :P
in fact there are steam forums talking about returning the game cause its so crap.
However if you didnt know a bunch of fixes were made third party that made the game playable again. graphic fixes, speed fixes, trigger fixes etc. etc. etc. People really took it upon themselves to fix up what the game devs gave up on. and they did a great job.
download Gentlemen of the Row. a Mod that fixes all the bugs, drastically improves gameplay, and adds a few of the most popular mods into the game as well making it a bit more enjoyable. all packaged with an installer that even lets you pick and choose which mods you want or dont want.
i stumbled upon this via the steam forums cause i was pretty much regretting my purchase even though it was only a few dollars. Now i think the game is much better ;).
homepage is here: http://idolninja.com/sr2.php
and i added a WIDESCREEN fix that pairs with this mod to the Detailed report section here:
http://widescreengamingforum.com/forum/forums/gaming/detailed-widescreen-reports/15967/detailed-report-saints-row-2#comment-238704
(providing its cool with mods and admins that i posted something about a mod in that thread that is)
the fix is basically the fix from the detailed report, but since that didnt work the files had to be extracted and can be run as part of the mod installing them with it and making the patch work awesomely!
im about 7 hours in and loving it :D. esp since i got it for just a few bucks on a steam sale.
